two DAAD fellowships approved.: Ana Maria de Oliveira and Enio Nazaré de Oliveira Junior from Brazil received funding to visit us for three months

Our ‘sandwich’ alumnus Dr. Enio de Oliveira and his wife Dr. Ana de Oliveira have both been granted three-month fellowships in the framework of the DAAD programme „Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists“. Enio had spent a sandwich year with us during his doctoral project, earning his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Campinas in Brazil, in 2006. After post-doctoral studies at the Federal University of Bahia, he became Professor at the Federal University of São João del Rei in the city of Ouro Branco, in the State of Minas Gerais, where he is Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering since 2019. His wife, Ana Maria de Oliveira, obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2005, also at the University of Campinas. She became professor first at the State University of Santa Cruz in Bahia, then also at the Federal University of São João del Rei. About two years ago, we started a collaboration, together with our Brazilian alumna Dr. Roberta Paulert who is now professor at the Federal University of Paraná in Palotina, Brazil. With her, we have a long-standing collaboration on the use of ulvans from green algae and chitosans from shrimp shells as biological plant protectants. Making use of the chemical and engineering expertise of Ana and Enio, we now want to intensify the work on elucidating structure-function relationships of ulvans. We are looking forward to Ana’s and Enio’s visit in Münster, planned to be starting in November of this year.
