Keynote lecture: Bruno Moerschbacher talked about “Controlling the Acetylation Patterns of Chitosans” at the 14th APCCS in Taipei, Taiwan
There are three regular international meetings of the chitin and chitosan scientific community: the biannual meetings of the European Chitin Society EUCHIS and of the Ibero-American Chitin and Chitosan Society SIAQ, as well as the Asia-Pacific Chitin and Chitosan Symposium APCCS organized by East- and South-East-Asian societies in turn. Typically, our group tries to be represented at each of these conferences, to showcase our own progress, but – of equal importance – to exchange ideas and plans with our wider community. At the end of August of this year, APCCS was organized by the Taiwan Chitin and Chitosan Society TCCS in Taipei, and Bruno Moerschbacher was invited as keynote speaker to present the most recent results of Dr. Margareta Hellmann, Dr. Stefan Cord-Landwehr, Dr. Carolin Richter and Katharina Eickelpasch on the influence of the production process on the structure and functions of chitosans. Margareta had presented part of these data already in Iceland during the last EUCHIS/ICCC meeting in 2023, and Bruno’s lecture now hopefully nailed down the importance of these results for the development of chitosan-based products in the minds of the chitosan community. As ex-president and International Relations Advisor of EUCHIS, he also gave a well-received Welcome Address at the Gala Dinner of the conference, to convey the good wishes and congratulations of our society to the organizers and delegates at APCCS, for an inspiring, perfectly organized meeting held in a warm and extremely friendly atmosphere. We are all happy that after the Corona gap, direct scientific and personal exchange has resumed – such an extremely important aspect of academic and industrial research and development.
