Legal transfer is usually understood as a collective undertaking, while individuals have rarely been placed at the centre of analysis. The workshop proposes a shift in perspective. Bringing together scholars working on diverse legal traditions, it asks how individuals, such as judges, traders or missionaries, “carry” law across jurisdictions, and thereby shape processes of legal change.
