“With this conference we wish to stress the confidence we have in you, the younger generation and that future developments in Cypriote [sic] archaeology depend entirely upon your capabilities and endeavours.” With these words, Vassos Karageorghis addressed the participants of a symposium which took place in Berlin on April 6, 2002, on his initiative and supported by the Cypriot Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation. This conference provided young German-speaking junior scientists specialised in Cypriot Archaeology with the opportunity to present their current research and hold a scientific discourse.
This volume accumulates these young scientists’ contributions. The themes cover a wide range of Cypriot archaeology. The contributions deal with significant monumental categories such as e.g. the representative, large-sized terracotta or limestone statues of Cyprus as well as small-sized statues or grave reliefs. Furthermore, this volume comprises accounts of Hellenistic portraits, bronze fibulas and furnaces. Thereby, a wide chronological bow has been drawn – dating from the late Bronze Age to the Roman Empire.
