THE CENTRE

Model Research - Cross-Disciplinary Research and Knowledge Transfer

If modelling is understood as a cultural technique that links conceptualization with imagination, thinking with action, and reproduction with design, then the CENTER FOR MODEL RESEARCH is the place that makes the diverse modeling practices and traditions accessible not only to comparative analysis but also to scholarly critique and evaluation.

Model-being, modelling, and understanding models are a mode of communicative where we think in terms of objects, act on thoughts, and turn possibilities into facts. Since theory converges with practice and openness to different modalities in modelling, the cultural technique of modelling generates a kind of epistemic reasoning that transcends media-technical procedures, professional and cultural differences, and even the distinction between the natural and human sciences.

The Centre for Model Research thus creates a space for analysis and critique, which renders modelling practices visible and open to scrutiny on neutral ground. It undertakes the following tasks:

  • providing expertise in model theory for interdisciplinary discourse (philosophy of science)
  • providing concepts from model aesthetics relating to model representation and model narration (model aesthetics, history of science)
  • providing methods of analysis, interpretation and intervention for interdisciplinary transfer (model hermeneutics)
  • supporting model-related teaching and research activities (model consultancy)
  • supporting the development and implementation of initial concepts for trans- and interdisciplinary modelling projects (model research)
  • supporting and initiating events and publications related to model research (model communication)
