New Transportation Plan for Winter Sports

As part of the winter sports project, a new trip concept called the “Frequent Traveler Trip” will be introduced in the winter of 2027. This concept is the result of growing demand, not least from participating families who have already taken part in the program. This trip will take place from March 13 to 20.

Pure Water Sports: Unforgettable Days on Lake Veluwe

Five days, eight families, and plenty of water sports: Our sports projects had an unforgettable time at Lake Veluwe. Thanks to the professional support from the Lifetime-Sport surf school, the VDWS, and our team, all participants were able to really get into windsurfing, sailing, SUP, and kayaking. In addition to activity-based side events, shared meals in front of the “team house,” campfires, and SUP tours at sunset made the trip a true communal experience—one that a sudden hailstorm will always vividly remind us of.

Four Rides, One Anniversary: A Huge Success in the Snow

For the first time, four snow sports trips took place in a single season as part of our sports projects. Supervised by our multidisciplinary team, the weeks offered tailored programs for younger children, teenagers, and—as part of our inclusive offerings—no-handicap skiing (sit-skiing and one-leg skiing). Our goal was always to provide all participants with the perfect introduction to winter sports. A double reason to celebrate: In addition to setting a new record for the number of trips, we also celebrated a small milestone with our 10th trip overall!

‘Lunchtime training’ at the university hospital

Eike Boll presented the cooperation project between the Institute of Sports Science and the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology as part of the lunchtime training course - a series of training sessions at the University Hospital for paediatric doctors and anyone interested. The focus was particularly on the snow sports project and its development in recent years. The exchange with colleagues from the clinic was very beneficial for the perspective of the overall project, which also offers various water sports and a climbing and bouldering programme for children and young people with cancer. Once again, the multi-professional orientation of the project became clear: in addition to doctors from the various paediatric disciplines, the training also involved specialists from the fields of sports, occupational and physiotherapy.

Sports in Oncology: A Successful Day of Climbing

Another climbing day took place as part of the sports program offered by the Institute of Sports Science for children and adolescents with cancer and their families. Under the guidance of Eike Boll, students in Module 10 actively supported this project. Prior to the event, students complete a course on the topic of “Sports in (Pediatric) Oncology” as well as training in top-rope climbing. The climbing days are part of the overall project alongside the established snow and water sports programs. Kinderkrebshilfe Münster e.V. provides financial support for the projects.

Snow sports project for children and young people with oncological diseases

The cooperation project with the university hospital took place again in Kleinwalsertal in March. Students from Module 10 were involved in the project. The team, led by Eike Boll, offered ski courses at all skill levels for the 22 participating children and young people and their families and was also able to adequately resolve therapy-related restrictions. As a pilot project, two of the participating patients were tested in advance using the "Movement Assessment Battery for Children (M-ABC-2)" motor skills test. Initial results in the re-test showed strikingly positive results, particularly in the area of balance. The project is financially supported by Kinderkrebshilfe Münster e.V.
