Doctoral Research Associate

(salary level TV-L E 13, 65%)
commencing on 1 December 2022. We are offering a fixed-term, part-time (65% FTE) position. Currently, the regular working time for full-time (100%) employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. The position is available for three years (until 30 September 2025). The call is for applicants from the social sciences (psychology, political sciences and sociology) with a focus on quantitative methods. All doctoral projects will be supervised by professors affiliated with the Cluster.
Successful candidates will join the Graduate School of the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation”. The Cluster is an interdisciplinary research association with a thematic focus on the interplay of religion, political processes and social change. Disciplines involved include political science, sociology, psychology, history, Catholic and Protestant theology, law, Islamic studies and theology, Jewish studies, Egyptology, classical and early Christian archaeology, philosophy, philology, art history and ethnology. Your tasks:
- working towards a doctorate in one of the above-mentioned social science disciplines
- planning and conducting empirical studies, including the coordination of student assistants
- conducting statistical analyses and preparing research reports
- drafting of scientific articles for publication in international peer-reviewed journals
- participation in the Cluster’s structured Doctoral Studies Programme

Our expectations:
- A graduate degree in one of the above-mentioned social science disciplines is required.
- Experience in different data collection methods (e.g., surveys, experiments, observations and natural language processing), data structures (e.g., individual, dyadic, group and longitudinal) and a broad set of data analytic techniques (e.g., multivariate regressions, structural equation modelling and multi-level modelling) is required.
- Strong competence in interdisciplinary studies including the ability to communicate one’s research in a variety of forums and the potential to establish oneself in international arenas is desirable.
- Good command of written and spoken English is required.
- German language skills would be advantageous but are not a requirement. In order to facilitate communication and collaboration within the Graduate School, applicants who are not proficient in German will be encouraged and supported to attend German language courses.
