Support at start of studies

Questions about studies

The Student Council put frequently asked questions about the study programmes in Münster together here. The questions are sorted by the different programmes to persue.

For those starting the first semester in Münster, events and information are put together by the Student Council here.

Official contact persons of the Department of Physics can be found here.

Questions about the lecture

Besides the regular tutorial there are two additional offers:

There is an extra tutorial once a week for questions of all sorts about the lecture. More information from Karol Kovarik.

In the voluntary mathematics revision course (during the semester) necessary knowledge in math is revised and practiced. It's offered twice per week and during it arithmetic problems will be solved together. More information from Karol Kovarik.

Questions about the research groups

Labor tours, internships and visits in research groups are possible. Ask the respective research groups.

Social activities and networking

Besides the wide range of recreational and networking offers by the university (university sports, university clubs, events organised by the AStA departments, etc.), there is a weekly games evening organised by the Student Council at the department of Physics. More information here.

The department’s Equality Office organises monthly events (workshops, talks, discussions, etc.). Further information on the individual events can be found on the Equality Office’s website, in the newsletter (sign up) and on the Instagram channel (@gleichstellung.physik_unims).

The Student Council organises a summer party for the whole department in the summer. Keep an eye out for the notices posted around the department.

Information and events (different groups)

Offers for high school students

In addition to workshops and activities for school classes and groups, the extracurricular learning centres MExLab Physik (@mexlab.physik) and the Netzwerk Teilchenwelt site (@teilchenwelt.ms) also offer voluntary and compulsory internships for high school students. Information about internships at the department can be obtained from the school office (in German). This is also where you can apply for the internship.

Astroseminar

The Astroseminar (in German) takes place every autumn. For two days, the focus is entirely on astrophysics, astronomy, cosmology and related sciences. Experts present the latest research findings, experiments and issues in modern astronomy in a way that is both scientific and accessible to a general audience. All pupils and high school students, students from all disciplines and anyone else interested are warmly welcome to attend this free event. No prior knowledge is required.

Bachelor-Master Day

The Bachelor-Master Day is organised annually in October by the Student Council. It brings students in contact with the reserach groups at the department to find possible subject areas for bachelor and master theses. However, it is also a good opportunity to talk to the research groups besides writing a thesis there.
