Precision physics in particle and astrophysics with cold and ultracold neutrons

Prof. Dr. Stephan Paul, Technische Universität München

With the advent of new high intensity sources for ultra cold neutrons and their decay products a new window in precision experiments will be opened soon. These installations will improve over existing ones by several orders of magnitude in intensity and thus allow to tackle forefront questions in particle physics and cosmology. The path of precision is complementary to experiments at LHC and will allow to explore mass ranges far beyond present accelerator based approaches. The presentation will give an overview on challenging experiments and explain their principle functioning and possible sensitivities. Emphasis is put on activities at the Munich source for neutrons (FRMII) where a new source for ultra cold neutrons is being prepared.
