New Publication Explores How Waste Shapes the World: Contributions by Two ZIN Members

“Wie Abfall die Welt bewegt. Handbuch sozialwissenschaftliche Abfallforschung” published by transcript – available Open Access from July 2027

The handbook "Wie Abfall die Welt bewegt: Handbuch sozialwissenschaftliche Abfallforschung", edited by the Waste-in-Motion Collective, was recently published by transcript Verlag. Two ZIN members, Dr. Tobias Gumbert and Dr. Yusif Idies, also contributed to the volume, which will be available Open Access from July 2027.

The handbook brings together social science perspectives on waste as a dynamic phenomenon, exploring its diverse relationships with people, things, places, and time. The authors show that where, how, when, and for whom waste becomes a challenge can only be determined in context.
