“There needs to be more room for interdisciplinarity if we, as a scientific community, are to live up to our responsibilities.”

Interview with Prof. Doris Fuchs on the ZIN blog „nach(haltig)gedacht“

Marking the tenth anniversary of the Center for Interdisciplinary Sustainability Studies (ZIN), the anniversary symposium „wissen(schafft)zukunft“ – 10 Jahre interdisziplinäre Forschung zu Nachhaltigkeit“ [“knowledge(creates)future – 10 years of interdisciplinary research on sustainability”] will take place on April 15, 2026. With the participation of numerous ZIN researchers, the event will feature an inspiring keynote and seven inter- and/or transdisciplinary panel discussions, offering a multifaceted panorama of key topics in sustainability transformation.

Alongside the anniversary symposium, an interview with political scientist Prof. Doris Fuchs is featured on the ZIN-Blog „nach(haltig)gedacht“. Doris Fuchs initiated the founding of ZIN in 2015, served on its board for many years, and played a key role in shaping its activities as its spokesperson. Since 2023, she has been Director of the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) in Potsdam. In the interview, she reflects on ZIN’s early days and its development over the past decade and discusses both the achievements and ongoing challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration in the context of sustainability transformations.
