4th ZIN-Brown Bag Lecture: “Transformative Education and Participation versus Education Economics and Growth”

June 5, starting at 12:15 p.m. – with insights from educational sciences

On Thursday, June 5, at 12:15 p.m., educational scientists Dr. Markus Kohnen and Dr. David Rott will give a lecture on “Transformative Education and Participation versus Educational Economics and Growth” as part of the ZIN-Brown Bag Lectures.

School should be understood as a place where social developments and changes can have a firm place. At the same time, school is not characterized by great flexibility and reproduces social conditions. The new educational construct of transformative education advocates openness and flexibility. Transformative education has an emancipatory character that is intended to support individuals in developing freely and self-determinedly. At the same time, the idea of transformation is also linked to a context of use—change should not only describe individual processes, but also take into account perspectives for the transformation of society as a whole. This gives rise to contradictions that can represent resistance to transformation but can also provide creative impulses for new social discourses. The lecturers will address these contradictions and discuss how the relationship between individual emancipation and social utility should be assessed with the audience.

This time, the lecture will take place at KTh I (Johannisstraße 8–10). No prior knowledge is required, and you are welcome to bring a small lunch with you!
