Battery Community Meets in Aachen

The international symposium “Kraftwerk Batterie − Advanced Battery Power” will be a highlight for the battery community at Eurogress Aachen on April 2 and 3, 2025. For the 17th time, it will give interested players in the field of research, development and application insights into current developments of energy storage systems. The conference offers the audience the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from industry and academia about new materials, innovative production processes, new fields of application and recycling. With keynotes and lectures by well-known scientists and engineers as well as discussion rounds, poster sessions and more than 60 exhibitors, participants can expect an extensive program.

Renowned Keynote Speakers from Industry and Academia

These top-class speakers will provide exclusive insights into the latest development of battery research and industry at the conference:

  • Prof. Simona Onori will present current findings on lithium-based battery systems in her lecture “The Role of Control in the Clean Energy Revolution: the Lithium Ion Battery Case Study”. The Professor of Energy Science and Engineering at Stanford University is also Director of the Stanford Energy Control Lab.
  • Prof. Gerbrand Ceder from the University of Berkeley will speak in his keynote “From Fundamental Materials Science and Physics to Novel Earth-abundant Cathode Materials for Lithium Ion Batteries” about new and innovative results in material research for energy storage systems.
  • Dr Weihan Li is Head of the research group “Artificial Intelligence for Batteries” at the Center for Aging, Reliability and Lifetime Prediction of Electrochemical and Power Electronic Systems (CARL) at RWTH Aachen. His lecture will focus on current developments in the field of battery digitization using artificial intelligence.
  • Prof. Gregory Offer will dedicate his keynote speech “Predicting the Lifetime of Lithium ion Batteries: Understanding and Modeling Degradation” to a deeper knowledge of the aging process of lithium ion batteries. Offer is Professor in Electrochemical Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London.
  • Dr Hans Beyer, Head of the EU development team for the system integration of battery cells at Webasto Group, will speak as an industry representative in his presentation “Leveraging LCA for Sustainable Batteries - a Chance to Accelerate” about the opportunities for improving the eco-balance of energy storage systems.
  • Dr Xiaojian Wang from the Contemporary Amperex Technology GmbH (CATL) will explain the work and approach of the research and development department at CATL in his lecture.

Detailed information on the program can be found on the website or in this flyer.

This year's conference is being organized by the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA) at the RWTH Aachen, MEET Battery Research Center at the University of Münster, the Helmholtz Institute Münster of Forschungszentrum Jülich and Haus der Technik (HDT).

North Rhine-Westphalia Technology Showcase on April 1, 2025

On April 1, 2025, the day before the conference “Kraftwerk Batterie − Advanced Battery Power”, the “Battery Day NRW” will take place at Eurogress Aachen. At this showcase, companies and institutions from North Rhine-Westphalia that are active in the battery technology and applications market will provide insights into their work and research. The patronage lies with the Ministry of Economics, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The event language is German.

You can find the Battery Day Flyer here. Further information and registration for both events can be found on the event website.
