Internationally renowned scientist from Israel visits MEET and HI MS

On Tuesday and Wednesday (July 24-25, 2018), the battery researchers in Münster welcomed an internationally renowned scientist in the field of modern lithium-ion and lithium-metal and magnesium batteries. Prof. Dr. Doron Aurbach and two of his doctoral students from Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv attended the meeting of the joint project MgMeAnS with MEET.

The bilateral cooperation, which began its three-year work in 2017 as part of the German-Israel Battery School (GIBS), focuses on the development of a secondary battery with magnesium-metal anodes and sulfur cathodes. "We find the German-Israeli cooperation very fruitful and inspiring. By complementing our core competencies, we have gathered a highly qualified research team," said Prof. Dr. Martin Winter, who welcomed the guests as scientific director of the MEET and Helmholtz-Institute Münster (HI MS). The cooperation in the framework of GIBS was initiated by a visit of Israel of Prof. Winter and German researchers in 2012. The project MgMeAnS as well as GIBS is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).

During his stay Prof. Aurbach gave a lecture entitled "Advanced materials science for energy storage & conversion". He inspired the numerously attending young Münster researchers, with his expertise in the field of many different storage technologies and a lively style of presentation. The audience reciprocated this effort by participating in an exciting exchange afterwards.
