Event Premiere of New ECS Student Chapter Münster

Education and Networking Opportunities for Young Chemists

The newly founded Student Chapter Münster of the Electrochemical Society (ECS) provides attractive networking and further education opportunities for students in and around Münster. As a recognised group of the largest international electrochemical society, the Student Chapter Münster celebrated its event premiere at Electrochemistry 2020 with the HUB “ECS Student Chapter Münster Presents: The Mosaic of Battery Research - en Route for the Big Picture”.

“We support young scientists and provide networking opportunities within the scientific community through events, contact and knowledge exchange as well as further education possibilities”, Chair Mengyi Zhang, Ph.D. student at MEET, about the objectives of the new Student Chapter at the renowned battery research location Münster. The first event of the Chapter, a digital HUB at Electrochemistry 2020, offered 34 participants a wide range of insights into the student’s works. In the first part, the four chapter members Julia Wellmann and Yi-Chen Hsieh, Research Associates at Helmholtz Institute Münster, as well as Martin Kolek and Yves Preibisch, PhD Students at MEET Battery Research Center, presented their research and answered questions. The subsequent discussion focused on lithium metal batteries, the performance of future battery types, and the complexity of transferring research results to industrial concepts.

Strong Network Opens up Prospects in Electrochemistry

Embedded in the worldwide network of the ECS, the Student Chapter Münster is open to all students interested in electrochemistry and related disciplines. Vice-Chair Julia Wellmann: ”As the first ECS Student Chapter in Northwest Germany, we are pleased to welcome members who represent a broad range of battery and general electrochemistry research.” The Student Chapter Münster is closely interconnected with the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy and MEET Battery Research Center of the University Münster as well as Helmholtz Institute Münster of Forschungszentrum Jülich.

There are 101 ECS Student Chapters in 25 different countries worldwide. In addition to Münster, ECS Student Chapters in Germany are located in Ilmenau, Munich and Ulm. Membership is free of charge and offers a wide range of opportunities to help shape events, to represent Münster as a location within the ECS and to establish contacts within the entire community of electrochemistry. Those interested can contact Yves Preibisch via e-Mail info.chapter.ecs@uni-muenster.de.

The next event of the ECS Student Chapter Münster is already being planned: By the format "Electrochemistry@Münster" on Wednesday, 28 October 2020, university professors and group leaders at the Münster location will give short introductions to their fields of work in order to inspire Bachelor and Master students for the manifold possibilities in electrochemistry. The ECS Student Chapter informs about its activities on its Twitter and its Instragram channels.
