Abstract: The churches and chapels within the Diocese of Münster house a diverse array of cultural treasures. The research project “Digitization of Christian Cultural Heritage in the Diocese of Münster,” spearheaded by ACHRIBI, aims to address this gap by making these artifacts digitally accessible.

The project will establish a research data collection with ca. 150,000 standardized records. The curated datasets will be published and made accessible for research purposes through databases such as Bildarchiv Foto Marburg and Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek. The initiative also includes experimenting with various digital education formats.

The interdisciplinary team, bringing together expertise in theology, digitalization, art history, and historical theology, collaborates closely with the art and cultural heritage group of the diocesan administration. Local community members, historians, sex- tons, and clergy will also actively participate, aiming to unearth rich oral and local knowledge that contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the cultural heritage within the diocese.
