Dr. Shangyuan Wu from Singapore visiting the Department of Communication in the Summer Semester 2023

(20.03.2023) Dr Shangyuan Wu from the National University of Singapore will begin her visiting fellowship at WWU’s Department of Communication in April 2023. She will work with Professor Thorsten Quandt on a research project on alternative media and teach the Master’s course “Digital Journalism and Society: Mapping Journalistic Trends and Transformations” for the duration of the summer semester.

Dr Wu is a lecturer and media researcher from the National University of Singapore’s Department of Communications and New Media. Her research areas of interest are centred on journalism in the digital age, with a focus on automated, data, immersive and online journalism. In particular, her research projects have involved investigations into the impact of social, political, economic and technological forces on the future of the journalism industry.

She has published in peer-reviewed journals like Digital Journalism, Journalism Studies, Journalism Practice, Journalism, and Information, Communication and Society and currently serves as the International Engagement Editor of Digital Journalism. She also has a background in practical journalism: She has worked as a senior broadcast journalist and presenter in Singapore, covering the areas of politics, defence and education.
