Bits & Bäume NRW 2025

How can academic content, digitalization, and sustainability be combined in the context of higher education? This question is at the centre of the „Bits & Bäume NRW“ Conference 2025. The event took place in the form of a webinar on 25 September 2025 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In three short presentations and an interactive discussion, participants (students, researchers, instructors, sustainability managers, administrative staff, and external stakeholders) focused primarily on how sustainable digitalization can be integrated as a topic into university teaching across various disciplines.
The 2025 event built thematically on the 2024 conference, which addressed sustainable digitalization processes at universities, but set a new focus by emphasizing teaching. Further information on the program can be found here.

Journalism and Borders

Annual conference of the Journalism/Journalism Studies division, held from 24–26 September 2025 at the Department of Communication, University of Münster.

Bits & Bäume NRW 2024

How can we combine digitalization and sustainability at universities? Participants in the 2024 „Bits & Bäume NRW“ event series (students, researchers, instructors, sustainability managers, administrative staff, and civil society actors in technology and environmental policy) explored this question.

During an in-person workshop at the Unperfekthaus in Essen on 13 November 2024, followed by three online webinars, participants used a range of interactive methods to examine how digital infrastructures at universities can be made more sustainable, how education for sustainable development can be integrated into higher education, which actors at universities work on sustainability in general and sustainable digitalization in particular, how these actors can network, and finally, what a sustainably digital university might look like.
Further information on the program can be found here.
