8th Constitutional Moot Court 2021
To the already 8. Once found on the 25. June and 26. June 2021 the Constitutional Moot Court of the Faculty of Law instead. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, competition had to be moved to the digital space for the first time this year. In the role as appellant and applicant, respectively. The 27 student participants argued entitled to comment:innen in front of the “Federal Constitutional Court” occupied with professor, administrative judge:innen, lawyer:innen and junior scientists: women. Thematically, this year's facts revolved around the constitutional assessment of the postponement of a federal election because of a pandemic and the applicability of the constructive vote of no confidence to a managing chancellor.
Since the issue of the facts on 3. May 2021 had the participating students of the 2nd to 4. Semesters in teams of 4 research both sides of the case and worked out the different points of view. The students were accompanied by Max Milas, research assistant at the chair of Mr. Prof. Dr. Petersen. He supervised the popular course and organized accompanying offers for the teams, such as an introduction to scientific work and professional rhetoric training.
On the 25. June and 26. June 2021, the trial simulations took place in front of the digital judges’ benches. On the competition day, the students assumed either the role of the legal representatives of the G-Group or the citizens of the Federal Government’s rights to comment. After passionate debates in the preliminary rounds, the four best points teams in the competition (In the mood for moot, Die Purist:innen, 4 Wins and In the best condition) moved into the final rounds.
After exciting final rounds, the following brilliant winners were selected at the award ceremony in the digital foyer:
1: 4 Wins (Julia Brüggemann, Merle Nikolai, Fiona Rathjens and Christina Richter)
2: The Purists (Johanna Schlegelmilch, Fiona Kalberg, Romy Baptist)
3: In the mood for moot (Mathias Rehse, Lea Möller, Hannah Schrief, Jonas Schubert)

All award winners were pleased to receive attractive prizes, which were provided with the kind support of the Freundeskreis Rechtwissenschaftlich. At the end, Max Milas encouraged the students to understand the award ceremony not only as a festive conclusion to their participation in the VMC 2021, but also as a starting signal for a further commitment in the field of public law and “mooting”. Alumni of the Moot Court have already founded various university groups. The faculty is also represented every year at international Moot Court competitions with its own team, so that there are excellent opportunities to build on participation in the VMC 2021!
