Form 5

Our BAföG officers for students of computer science and students in a dual-subject Bachelor's programme with computer science as one subject (Zwei-Fach-Bachelor) can issue certifications in accordance with Form 5 (BAföG after the 4th semester).

How do I obtain this certificate?

If you require this, please send us:

  • the digitally completed BAföG Form 5 (the turquoise-green section must be completed – link last tested in Sep 2025) – no photos or scans!
  • a current transcript of records – please ensure that all passed courses are already entered!
  • if applicable, notes/explanations regarding any semesters of leave or similar that affect the number of semesters

To have the certificate issued, please send an email to bafoeg.informatik@uni-muenster.de with the specified information and PDFs. Incomplete documents cannot be processed and will lead to delays.

How many LP do I need?

The Faculty Council of FB10 has adopted binding criteria for certifying the standard level of achievement after the 4th semester (§ 48 BAföG). There are three scenarios:

1) In the dual-subject Bachelor’s programme with Computer Science as one of the subjects, you will need a Form 5 for each subject (including Educational Sciences). For Form 5, which you submit to us, we assess the Computer Science components of the degree programme, whilst also including the general studies modules. Here, the standard level of achievement is defined as 87.5 per cent of the credit points that should have been attained by this point.

2) For degree programmes in which Computer Science is the lead subject (this applies in particular to the BSc in Computer Science), we carry out the assessment for all components of the programme ourselves, including the minor subject and the general studies. This means that you do not need a further Form 5 from other departments. In this case, 105 LP are regarded as the standard level of achievement; that is, we certify that you have completed the programme within the standard period of study if you can demonstrate that you have attained at least 105 LP.

3) In all other cases where Computer Science is not the lead subject, we assess only the Computer Science components of the degree programme, though this includes the general studies modules. The logic here is the same as for the dual-subject Bachelor’s degree. The standard level of achievement is defined as 87.5 per cent of the credit points that should have been attained in the relevant degree programme by this point (end of the fourth semester).

What should I do if I cannot provide proof of the required credits?

If a positive certification ("normal progress") cannot be granted due to insufficient credits, we will certify your actual current standing. In such cases, we recommend seeking advice from the BAföG office (Amt für Ausbildungsförderung). They can determine whether specific reasons for delay (e.g., illness, committee work) allow for continued funding despite the deficit. You may be asked to contact the academic advisory service. They will check whether it is still possible to graduate within the standard period of study, which we can then also certify. How do I obtain a certificate for my Master’s degree?

Form 5 is usually issued for the continuation of BAFöG funding after the fourth semester. At Master’s level, it is therefore unusual for the BAFöG office to request this, as the degree programme should be completed by this stage. The Faculty of Computer Science (FB10) has not yet adopted any regulations for the MSc in Computer Science, so we are currently assessing each case individually.

What are the rules for the Master’s in Data Science?

To avoid the need for each participating institution to provide its own forms, a scheme is currently being drawn up. Otherwise, as this is a Master’s programme, the same rules apply as for the MSc in Computer Science.

Form 10
