Introduction to Linux for High Performance Computing

Content: The course is intended to enable users without prior experience to handle “super computers” (HPC computing clusters) confidently and to efficiently perform extensive scientific computations. The course first introduces the basics of using the command line in Linux and later on guides users through the basic HPC workflow. We end with a discussion of the architecture and challenges of HPC systems, the implications for high performance software as well as a guided tour of our HPC facility.

Language: English (materials & communication)

Course Format: In-class lecture with practical exercises

Course Material: The materials for this lecture will be made available via Learnweb

Target group: Students and PhD students (with or) without skills in Linux who like to use the HPC computing cluster PALMA for scientific calculations.

Credit Points: from winter term 2025/26: 2 CP within the General Studies in case of successful participation in the course and the final test
