New Exhibition "Colonialism Theme Room"

August 23, 2025 until February 15, 2026

The exhibition at the City Museum Münster focuses on the traces of German colonialism in Münster and its consequences. For the team of three curators, Prof. Dr. Sarah Albiez-Wieck (Department of History at the University of Münster), Dr. Johannes Jansen (Institute of History Education at the University of Münster) and Dr. Barbara Rommé (Stadtmuseum Münster), the aim is to show the development in Münster and to create space for different experiences and voices on the subject. "Between 1884 and 1918, Germany had colonies in Africa, China and the Pacific region," reports museum director Barbara Rommé. "Many people in Münster benefited from the fact that these regions were oppressed and exploited. The colonial view, which regarded people from the affected areas as inferior, has left its mark to this day, including in Münster."

Please refer to the  flyer for information on dates for guided tours through the exhibition and its supporting program.
