Application of FB14 students
Application requirements:
- You must be an enrolled student at the University of Münster.
- Since the new program generation established in 2022, you can already apply for an Erasmus semester in your first year of study.
What must the application contain?
- Stammdatenblatt -> please fill out digitally on a computer, not by hand.
- 1-2 page letter of motivation in English (see tips below).
- CV in German or English (no photo!).
- Transcript of Records (a self-generated QISPOS or Self Service pdf is sufficient)
- First-semester BA students: certificate of enrollment; no ToR
- MA students: bachelor's ToR and bachelor's degree certificate
- Proof of language proficiency in the language of instruction*
*(High school diplomas that are no more than 5 years old are considered proof of language proficiency).
The application is directed to the staff of the Erasmus Office and the Erasmus coordinators: Prof. Dr. Buchholz, Prof. Dr. Sippel, and Prof. Dr. Sanchez-Valle, not to the exchange university.
Application submission
Applications must be submitted online as a single PDF file (applications consisting of multiple PDF files will not be considered) in the Erasmus Office's Learnweb course.
As soon as the application phase begins, you will find a tab there for submitting your application.
Additional information
If you have a second or third choice, please indicate this in the Stammdatenblatt. You do not need to write separate applications!
Your application must not contain a picture of you, as we are not allowed to consider applications with pictures/photos. This applies not only to your resume, but to the entire application!
When choosing a partner university, please note that the contract with each partner university is run through one of the institutes in the department (Geography, Geosciences, Landscape Ecology, or Geoinformatics). The respective institute is listed on the websites of the individual partner universities (see the Partner Universities tab). Places are allocated on a priority basis to students of the institute through which the agreement is concluded. For example, if an agreement is concluded through the Institute of Geography, Geography students have priority in the allocation of places. However, it is still possible to apply to all partner universities, regardless of what you are studying!
Motivational letter
The motivational letter may contain the following (if applicable):
- Personal information: years of study, preliminary diploma(s), major/minor subjects, practical experience (internships, etc.)
- Language skills (if so, please provide relevant certificates or transcripts)
- Prior experience, knowledge of the country/region/field of study: Have you already attended thematically related events such as lectures or seminars?
- Previous experience abroad, activities abroad
- Main areas of interest, academic motivation (course selection at partner university)
- What is the basis for your interest in studying in the chosen country/at the chosen university?
- Do you intend to use your stay abroad to work on your bachelor's or master's thesis?
Please remember to write your letter of motivation in English!
❗️We, as the Erasmus Office, are involved in the selection of scholarship holders and therefore also decide on your applications. Please refrain from asking content-related questions about your application, as this could compromise equal opportunities for all applicants. For general organizational questions or technical issues, we are of course happy to assist you.
Proof of language proficiency
The Erasmus+ program requires that scholarship recipients in most cases demonstrate a minimum language proficiency level of B1 or B2 in the language of instruction. Ways to demonstrate such language proficiency include the following:
- C-tests and other official language tests (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, TELC, Unicert, Cambridge Certificates, etc.) (max. 2 years old)
- High school diplomas (max. 5 years old; for applications for the 2026/27 academic year, including high school diplomas from 2021)
Important notes
- The language certificate must include a language level classification according to the CEFR (e.g., B2, C1).
- We do not (!) accept bachelor's degrees or enrollment certificates in foreign-language degree programs.
- Here you will find all the required language levels for the individual universities as a PDF.
- Please also note that this refers to the language of instruction and not the national language.
Deadlines
FB14 students can apply until January 18, 2026, for an Erasmus exchange in the following academic year (26/27), i.e., for the winter semester 2026/27, the entire academic year of 26/27, and for the summer semester 2027.
From the beginning of March, the list of remaining places (Restplatzliste) will be posted on our homepage and we will accept applications from students from other disciplines as well as from geoscience students who have made a late decision. The principle of “first come, first served” applies here. It is worthwhile to be quick, as some partner universities have their nomination deadlines in March and April. These deadlines are non-negotiable for us and we cannot register anyone for these universities after that date.
If you would like to apply for a remaining place for the winter or summer semester, we need your documents by April 15, 2026.
We will inform you about further deadlines for additional documents (e.g., declaration of acceptance) in a timely manner!
