What is Erasmus?
In addition to a wide range of opportunities to study abroad during their studies (further information is available from the International Office or the DAAD), students in the Department of Geosciences can participate directly in the European Union's ERASMUS+ programme. Remaining places can also be allocated to students from other departments at the University of Münster. However, some partner universities only accept students who are studying in the contractually agreed field.
The academic year begins in the winter semester. The semester dates at the host universities vary and do not necessarily coincide with those in Münster. If you intend to study abroad for only one semester, it is advisable to do so in the winter semester, as many courses – similar to those at the University of Münster – begin at this time and continue in the summer semester (especially practical courses and study projects). It is often more difficult to start in the summer semester. This applies, for example, to Erasmus language courses at foreign universities, but also to participation in winter semester examinations in Münster. Please note that for a stay in the summer semester, the application deadline is already at the end of January/beginning of February of the previous year. Testimonials from former scholarship holders can be found on the respective information pages of our partner universities.
If you are interested in doing an internship abroad, the Career Service at the University of Münster can provide you with information on scholarships for internships in Europe and consultation hours. The Career Service blog ‘HINTERM HORIZONT’ also features exciting reports from former Erasmus interns. In addition, science students have the opportunity to participate in the IAESTE internship programme.
