Natalie Effelsberg and Verónica Ferrando successfully defended their PhDs!

Congratulations to Natalie Effelsberg and Verónica Ferrando who successfully defended their PhDs! 

Natalie conducted her PhD studies at the Institute of Hygiene in the group of Prof Alexander Mellmann researching the molecular epidemiology of multidrug-resistant zoonotic bacterial pathogens. Verónica did her PhD research at the Institute of Virology in Prof Stepan Ludwig's lab investigating in vitro reassortment and adaptation of influenza A viruses circulating in swine.

We thank Natalie and Verónica for their dedicated commitment to EvoPAD and wish them all the best for their future careers!

EvoPAD PI Alexander Mellmann leads new pilot project to collect data on the spread of SARS-CoV-2 mutations in NRW

Reports of the global spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants like the fast-transmitting variants B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 are accumulating. The Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs in NRW has now started the pilot project 'Molecular surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 variants in NRW' to collect data on the spread of these variants in NRW.
The project that is funded with 200,000 Euros is led by EvoPAD PI Prof Alexander Mellmann of the Institute of Hygiene at the University Hospital Münster. Partners are the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene and the Institute of Virology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf.
