Abstract

The text asks for Christian social ethics as transformation ethics and develops and analyzes the potential for this on the basis of the encyclical Laudato si’. The encyclical calls for a radical revision of the relationship with nature, away from anthropocentric dualism and towards a holistic, post-secular perspective in which humans and nature are inextricably linked. The importance of common goods and a politics of the common home based on cooperation, sharing and fairness is emphasized. The reception in social ethics has so far remained largely anthropocentric, but the potential for a comprehensive transformation ethic is great. Through their concepts of kinship and political ecology, allies such as Haraway and Latour offer new perspectives for rethinking the common good and actively shaping social change.
