Abstract

The article examines how the encyclical Laudato si’ was developed further in papal writings, episcopal letters, and ecclesial action plans. The focus is on central topics such as climate, biodiversity, cultural diversity and spiritual renewal. Critical reference is made to an inadequate integration of some of these aspects into church doctrine and practice. Diocesan climate strategies and international networks for ethical finance are positively highlighted, while deficits in the fields of lifestyle changes, education and spirituality remain. Theologically a paradigm shift should be stimulated that overcomes anthropocentristic views, establishes a new understanding of progress and growth, and thus strengthens the church’s contribution to global ecological challenges.
