Film Screening & Panel Discussion: Dreamers
3 February 2026, 6 pm, Cinema Kurbelkiste, Münster

This event combines a screening of Dreamers (dir. Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor) with a panel discussion on queer displacement, asylum politics, and questions of safety, belonging, and recognition. The film tells the story of a lesbian refugee in the UK, offering a powerful perspective on the intersections of sexuality, migration, and state control.

With Nadine Segadlo (CIGS, University of Münster) and Dennis Schoon (Exil e.V.), the discussion brings together academic, activist, and practice-based perspectives. The panel will be moderated by Rieke Schröder (CIGS, University of Münster).

Organized by the Center for International Gender Studies (CIGS) in cooperation with the L*Ref from the ASTA of the University of Münster.

Lecture Series, Winter Term 2025/2026: Global Politics, Gender, and (In-)Equality

on selected Thursdays, 14.15 – 15.45 pm, online via Zoom

The lecture series unpacks the complex entanglements of politics, gender, and (in-)equality in contemporary societies. Renowned international scholars address how power structures and struggles shape and are shaped by intersectional sexual politics, gendered experiences and identities. From hate speech and anti-gender movements to postcolonial feminist resistance and queering human rights, the speakers critically explore how (in-)equality is constructed – and how it is contested.
