The coordinator of the Centre for Research Communication of the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics" of the University of Münster, Viola van Melis, participated on 2 December 2020 in the round table "Challenges of Communicating Science to Society" organised by the German House of Science and Innovation in São Paulo (DWIH-SP) in the framework of the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC). The event also had the participation of two other speakers, Prof. Dr. Paula-Irene Villa Braslavsky, from the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), and Prof. Dr. Yurij Castelfranchi, associate professor of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Dr. Luisa Massarani - coordinator of the National Institute of Public Communication in Science and Technology, based at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), took over the moderation of the event.

Because of the growing anti-science attitude of a part of society, this debate is extremely topical and even necessary. Through this debate, the Brazilian and German public had the opportunity to receive many important contributions to a reflection on the communication of science (and its obstacles), as well as to learn about concrete initiatives. The news about the event with more information, published by DWIH-SP, you can read here [pt]. The full video of the round table, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese, can be watched here.
