Special Study Program Bioanalytics and Biochemistry

© Uni MS

The special study program "Bioanalytics and Biochemistry" is dedicated to the analysis of biological function from the single biomolecule to organismal physiology. It will provide training in analytical molecular methods and concepts to dissect biological function ranging from mass spectrometry for metabolite and proteome analysis, high resolution microscopy, the use of in vivo biosensors, fast optical spectroscopy to genome editing. Training in state-of-the-art approaches will include their (bio)physical and chemical foundations, proficiency in appraising their strengths and limitations and their mindful application to address the most timely problems of the molecular biosciences. Course modules will provide a diverse overview of modern bioanalytics and showcase their applications in understanding the fundamental molecular functions of microbes, animals and plants and in the state of the art bioengineering approaches.

  • Lecture SSP Bioanalytics and Biochemistry SoSe 2024

Attendance at the lecture is mandatory.

Attendance at the lecture lays the foundation for an understanding of bioanalysis and is directly related to the content of the master's modules.

Please register for the lecture in the learnweb.

    SSP Structure

The SSP Bioanalytics and Biochemistry follows the structure of the MSc Biosciences program, which consist of six 4-weeks advance modules (AdM), two additional 8-weeks Research Modules (RM) during the first year, a Project Management Module plus a final Master thesis accompanied by supporting satellite modules during the second year.

Requirements to obtain the SSP Bioanalytics and Biochemistry certificate:

To obtain the certificate it will be necessary to complete a total of 20 CPs in advanced modules and/or research modules with the "yellow" label.

Hence, students must select advanced modules and research modules by following one of the two options below:

    OPTION 1: Choose 2 AdM (5 + 5 CPs) and 1 RM (10 CPs) with the "yellow" label .

    or,

OPTION 2: Choose 2 RM (10 + 10 CPs) with the "yellow" label.

Regular attendance of the lecture Bioanalytics and Biochemistry is a prerequisite for the certificate.

In addition, students will have to perform their Master Thesis (60 CPs) in (or associated with) one of the Bioanalytics and Biochemistry research groups.

While it is not mandatory, it is recommended to chose a mentor from among the Bioanalytics and Biochemistry-related groups, to discuss your interests and study plans for an optimal selection of modules. This does not have to be the head of the group where you will eventually do your Master research project.
