Application for part-time jobs

In the following, you will find information on finding a job to finance your studies/living expenses as a student of the University of Münster.
If you are interested in completing an internship in Germany or abroad or need assistance with regard to career orientation, you are welcome to use the information and advice services offered by the Career Service.

Search information

As you begin your search for part-time jobs in Münster, your first step should be to consider which sector you would like to work in. Ask yourself, for example:

-    What kind of activities do I enjoy? Do I enjoy contact with people, or would I rather work behind the scenes?
-    What working hours fit my schedule? You would probably have more flexibility with your hours at a supermarket, for example, than in catering.
-    What language skills do I have and where can I put them to use?
-    What experience do I already have and can I use it?

In the second step, you can search for job ads in regional daily newspapers and event magazines. The local daily newspapers in Münster are "Westfälische Nachrichten" and "Münstersche Zeitung". Event magazines include "na dann" or "ultimo".
All these publications have online versions with job ads as well. You can also check for job ads posted on the notice boards at the institutes of the University of Münster.
You can find job offers for student assistant positions on the University’s career portal KAP .
Many employers in trade, gastronomy etc. are desperately looking for new staff, especially on account of the coronavirus crisis. Therefore, keep your eye open for help-wanted ads at your local bakery, supermarket or the pub next door.
Often you can contact them directly to get more information.

Application

Applications for part-time jobs usually include a cover letter and CV. Certificates and other attachments should only be submitted at the employer’s request. Make sure both documents correspond to one another: your CV and cover letter should complement each other and clearly make your case that you are ideally suited to the tasks and activities involved.
To help you with the application process, feel free to use the sample cover letter and CV as a template for your own application.
