On April 5, 2023, the Senate of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU for short) decided to remove Wilhelm II from its name. Since October 1, 2023, it has therefore been called "University of Münster". The decision was preceded by a public discussion process, which also included the project "Zur Sache WWU".
