Funding programme “The World Is My Campus”: Future Lab coordinates multimillion-euro teacher education project

The University of Münster is set to receive around three million euros from the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre for the project “Taking responsibility through co-creation: participation as a key to fostering cross-cutting competences in teacher education” (MIT-PART). The project will begin in July 2026 and run for four years.

The Future Lab coordinated the application process and played a key role in developing the proposal together with Professor Dr Ulrike Weyland, Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching, and a broad-based working group made up of students, academics from teacher education subjects and institutions, and members of the central administration. This marks another important success in the strategic development of teacher education and the two-subject Bachelor’s degree at the University of Münster.

MIT-PART will give greater prominence to key future-oriented topics such as democratic education, sustainability and career orientation within teacher education. Students will not only reflect on responsibility in theory, but will also experience it and help shape it through concrete teaching, learning and assessment formats. Together with lecturers, schools and partners from professional practice, they will develop classroom and school-based scenarios on topics such as source criticism in the age of AI, disinformation, conflict mediation and digitally supported learning environments.

The Future Lab is currently supporting the project set-up. Once the overall coordination role has been filled at the Centre for Teacher Education, it will continue to contribute as a critical friend and as part of the project’s strategic support structure. In this way, the Future Lab will help MIT-PART implement its objectives effectively, incorporate university-wide perspectives and further develop teacher education in Münster with a view to the future.
