University of Münster Becomes Full Member of the Leibniz Education Research Network (LERN)

A major success for educational sciences and subject didactics at the University of Münster: the University has been accepted as a full member of the renowned Leibniz Education Research Network (LERN). This interdisciplinary network currently brings together 27 leading institutions to explore how educational potentials can be better identified, fostered, and utilized at the individual, institutional, and societal levels.

The University of Münster contributes broad expertise across the entire educational spectrum – from early childhood education and schools to vocational training and higher education. Particularly distinctive are Münster’s strong practical orintation, numerous transfer projects, and sustained engagement with implementation challenges in education.

Building on successful workshops and networking events earlier this year, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ulrike Weyland and Prof. Dr. Elmar Souvignier presented the breadth and depth of Münster’s educational research at this year’s LERN annual conference in Tübingen. Their compelling presentation of both scientific strengths and strategic alignment led to Münster’s admission into the network – granting direct access to a unique collaborative platform that promotes interdisciplinary research, supports early-career scholars, and fosters visibility in education policy discourse.

Membership in LERN will also benefit future developments here in Münster. The University’s Center for Teacher Education (ZLB) will play a central role – serving as an institutional interface between educational research, teacher training, and school practice, and as a key hub for further interdisciplinary networking in the field.

The Future Lab coordinated the application process, oversees the University’s membership, and supports the strategic advancement and networking of educational research at the University of Münster.
