Ulysseus R&I Conference 2026: Applied AI in Business and Education: Research, Innovation, and Responsibility
On 6 October 2026 join us in Helsinki for a Ulysseus R&I Conference 2026 to explore current trends in the applied AI in business and education: research, innovation, and responsibility. The conference will play a vital role in strengthening research networks, supporting innovation-driven territorial transformation, and showcasing Ulysseus as a driver of excellence in European R&I cooperation.
Events Highlights
The conference addresses how applied AI can:
- provide inspirational keynote talks,
- address the current challenges on how applied AI can support innovation (in business models, processes, and decision-making), enhance teaching, learning, and assessment (in higher education) and be developed and implemented in responsible, human-centred ways,
- give a platform for joint Ulysseus R&I groups in the conference’ topics to showcase the joint R&I activities they conducted within the Ulysseus European University.
- encourage students and young researchers to present and discuss their research in an open, supportive setting, direct exchange with senior researchers, practitioners, and innovation actors and access to networking and matchmaking sessions aimed at fostering cross-institutional and interdisciplinary cooperation within Ulysseus European University.
The conference will be back-to-back followed up by the presentation of the Ulysseus Innovation Hub of Applied AI for Business and Education (7-8 October) which will showcase the activities of the Haaga-Helia’s innovation Hub. It will include presentations of ongoing European R&I activities, applied AI initiatives, and living lab and incubator activities, while creating opportunities for networking, interdisciplinary exchange, matchmaking, and future collaboration within the Ulysseus European University alliance and wider innovation ecosystem.

Researchers, innovators, start-ups, students, and regional stakeholders will have an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, showcase results, and forge new partnerships in three thematic tracks:
1️⃣ Track 1: Applied AI in Business – use cases, innovation processes, and organisational change
2️⃣ Track 2: AI in Education – teaching (with) AI, learning analytics, assessment, and faculty development
3️⃣ Track 3: Sustainability, Responsibility, and Trust – Bias, transparency, and (societal) implications
Researchers from joint Ulysseus R&I groups in the topics of the Conference are more than encourage to participate at the Conference, using of the approved grants from the seed funding programme is advised.

SMILE study programme - Sustainable Management in Life Sciences & Engineering
SMILE combines specific and interdisciplinary training in the areas of sustainability management in life sciences with complementary training offered at each partner university and training in high-level digital skills, languages, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship as key transversal skills to provide solutions to global problems.
To achieve the learning outcomes, the co-creation group established a 120 ECTS study programme, divided into two years (4 semesters, 30 ETCS each), with three main parts (the “Core semesters”, the “specialisation semester, and the “getting into the sector semester”).
From the structural point of view, SMILE begins with two core semesters including physical mobility. Students then choose a specialisation according to their preference and finish the programme by writing a Master Thesis.
1st semester: Foundations of Sustainable Management at MCI
2nd semester: Consolidation and general principles of Sustainable management at HSWT
3rd semester: Specialisations:
– Specialisation 1: Sustainable Food Systems, (University of Sevilla)
