Research Foci
Migration and Home-(Un)Making
In my role as a research associate, I have worked in several third-party funded projects on different fields of migration research. The main focus of my ongoing dissertation is post-migrant democratic processes of home (un-)Making, which I investigate using qualitative and ethnographic methods based on the example of a large housing estate in East Germany. The research also engages with approaches in critical Europeanisation and border regime studies as well as questions of access to social infrastructures and social and political (in)equality.

Leoni J. Meyer is a research associate at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Münster in the research area “Migration, Diversity and Social Cohesion” (Prof. Dr. Nihad El-Kayed). She currently works in the BMFSFJ-funded DeZIM collaborative project “Political (In-)Equality in the Post-Migrant Democracy (PoMigDem)” in research and organisational coordination, as well as in the sub-project “Representation under Conditions of Threat: Local Elected Officials between Exit and Voice” (C.2), where she conducts qualitative research on how local elected representatives in rural regions deal with situations of threat. She is also pursuing her PhD at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research and at the Institute for European Ethnology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on Home (Un-)Making in the post-migrant society in East Germany. She studied European Ethnology and Social Sciences in Berlin and Istanbul.
