Talbot Focusing: A new effect for realizing unconventional lens arrays
Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Brenner, Universität Heidelberg, Technische Informatik

Self imaging is a well known effect of periodic structures since its discovery by William Talbot, almost two centuries ago. Talbot focusing is a newly discovered effect, which allows to violate the Abbe relation between numerical aperture (NA) and focal spot size. Thus, e.g. micro-lens arrays with very long working distance and high NA are possible. The talk gives a short reminder of Talbot imaging and then presents the theory of Talbot focusing and some applications of this effect, including a new type of scanning microscope and a new alternative to digital holographic microscopy.

Einladende: Prof. Dr. Cornelia Denz
