Quantum Chromodynamics on the Lattice
Dr. Stefan Schäfer, CERN, Genf

A discrete space-time is an important tool for studying field theory. In particular for QCD it allows for Monte-Carlo simulations which provide the only way to access many of its aspects. The development of new algorithms along with faster computers has brought these computations to a quantitative level with results that compete in accuracy with experimental determinations.

This talk will focus on the general physics ideas behind these calculations and try to give an overview of the kind of questions which are currently being addressed.
