New NRW junior research group at the ITP

The Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP) welcomes Jun.-Prof. Dr. Diana Khoromskaia as a new junior group leader. Her research on theoretical physics of living matter is supported by the NRW returning scholars grant 2023 in the area “Materials Science”. The group will investigate the physical processes in biological, soft matter as part of Nonlinear Physics at ITP and of the Center for Soft Nanoscience (SoN). The focus will lie on model development and simulations for mechano-chemical pattern formation, transport processes and morphogenesis in biological cells and tissues, to understand the underlying biophysical principles of self-organisation in these complex systems.
After studying physics in Heidelberg and completing her PhD in Warwick (UK), Dr. Khoromskaia has conducted postdoctoral research at the Francis Crick Institute and University College London. At the University of Münster, her research will strengthen the interdisciplinary connections between theoretical physics, material science, and biology.
