The central service departments in the Institute for Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry and in the Institute for Organic Chemistry belong to the mass spectrometric competences and focal points of the University of Münster. The focus is on the characterization of organic and inorganic synthesis products, in particular the confirmation of identity and elemental composition.

In addition, there are two units that carry out protein analysis and proteomics with a high level of expertise. The Mass Spectrometry-based Proteomics Unit Biology of Plants (MSPUB) at the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology performs detailed proteome analyses not only for working groups at the institute, but also for other working groups at the university and other research institutions. The Core Facility Protein Analysis & Proteomics at the Faculty of Medicine is also available to all scientists for comprehensive protein analyses.
