Mission

The University of Münster is committed to the principles of open research (Open Science). The transparency and reliability of research are essential criteria of good scientific practice and basic prerequisites for the creation of publicly accessible and reliable knowledge. The Münster Center for Open Science (MüCOS) is being created to network, bundle and expand open science expertise and offerings. With MüCOS, we support all members of the University of Münster in the best possible implementation of Open Science practices, taking into account ethical, data protection, and discipline-specific requirements. This applies to the entire research process and concerns the transparent derivation of research questions and hypotheses, creating a data management plan, documenting materials, analysis tools and data, and publishing and communicating research results. Through our national and international network and our research projects in the field of Open Science, we contribute to strengthening and deepening our understanding of the conditions and consequences of open research. The University of Münster sees itself as a pioneer on the path towards more reliable and accessible research.

Structure

MüCOS cooperates closely with numerous university centers and initiatives to support the entire research cycle. It serves as an open science nexus for networking and exchange. Interdisciplinary services are primarily provided by the infrastructure of the University and State Library. Designated centers and working groups also manage subject-specific expertise.

The statute contains the tasks and organizational structure of the MüCOS and is available in the Intranet.

MüCOS uses open science coordinators in the individual departments to identify the needs of specific subjects, to network stakeholders with overlapping requirements, and to find specialists.
