Forms of dialog – art and architecture

Seminar at the Kunstakademie Münster

The University of Münster's art collections contain a large group of works that were created in dialog with architecture. The spectrum ranges from classical "Kunst am Bau" to experimental environments and current interventions and reflects the changes in the understanding of art from the 1950s to the present day. However, the references to architecture vary - sometimes the artists react more formally to architecture with their works, sometimes they refer critically or humorously to the use of the buildings, sometimes they place themselves entirely at the service of built utopias. In the seminar in front of originals proposed here, the contexts in which selected works were created will be reconstructed and the respective forms of reference discussed and - in the sense of artistic research - finally commented on.

All seminar information can be found in the Münster Art Academy course catalog for the summer semester 2024 on page 78.
