Applying to the Graduate School of Communication Science


The following conditions of admission are required:

  • Magister, Master or Diplom degree (very good degree; the degree should correspond to a German degree of 2.5 or better)
  • A letter from the first supervisor confirming the academic supervision
  • Proof of qualification on the basis of an admission procedure

Please enclose the following documents with your application:

  • A formless application stressing your qualification and motivation, your academic interests and your future career plans
  • Proof of academic qualification and a letter from the first supervisor confirming the academic supervision
  • An exposé (approx. 15 pages) of your research project. The exposé should include a review of relevant and current research as well as a work and time schedule

The deadline for applications for the winter term is 15 September. The deadline for applications for the summer term ist 15 March.

Admission procedure

The admission process consists of the evaluation of the exposé and a personal interview. Applicants whose qualification has been confirmed by the board of the GSCS are accepted on the Ph.D course under the circumstance that a place is available depending on their ranking.
