Abstract

Just Börne, Kiepenkerl and bicycles? What do people in other parts of Germany think about Münster and how do they find the city? The cooperation project between the IfK and the City of Münster focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the perception and evaluation of Münster's image as seen by outsiders. The analysis of the city's image aims to reveal what image people in other parts of Germany have of Münster and how Münster is perceived by (potential) visitors, prospective students, business representatives and other external interest groups. The study, led by Prof. Dr. Volker Gehrau and Prof. Dr. Ulrike Röttger, thus closes a research gap, as the existing surveys on Münster's external image are 20 years old and, in general, there are few scientific studies that systematically examine the various components and their interactions that influence the public perception of cities. A quantitative online survey of approximately 1,000 people aged 16 and over living in Germany is planned.
