Academic calendar:

Advice from former students
- The Geography degree programme offers a specialisation in ‘Environment’. There are suitable courses here for LÖKs. Of particular interest (among others) are: ‘Introduction to the Geo-Environment Specialisation’ (including several day-long field trips) and ‘Fieldwork and Group Project’ (including a one-week field trip to the Alps)
- “Parcours aménagement” offers suitable options for the ORL, Applied Geography, Human Geography 2 and Regional Geography modules
- Political Geography is only covered by one course in the summer term
- courses are available on the topics of transport geography and risk geography
- There is a strong emphasis on practical work with numerous field trips
- The system is more traditional, particularly at Bachelor’s level, with ‘proper’ lectures; at Master’s level, there are more projects (5–15 ECTS)
- Language courses at the SUEE are highly recommended, particularly those taught by Pascal Torrin; there is a very wide
range of courses on offer - It’s quite difficult to take courses at other faculties
- As a Bachelor’s student, you can also take Master’s courses
- As the summer semester ends in mid- to late May, it is theoretically still possible to attend block-course sessions at the Uni Münster or travel using the Card 12/25 (similar to the Bahncard 50)
Living and freetime:
- There’s the option to take part in the university’s sports and cultural activities at a reduced rate. For example, trips organised by SUAPS to the surrounding area (hikes, etc.)
- Finding shared accommodation is difficult, but not impossible. It’s best to go through your contacts. Otherwise: www.leboncoin.fr
- Part-time job opportunity: With the regional administration (Conseil régional d’Auvergne) as a teaching assistant -> teaching German in schools. This would certainly be useful for teacher-training students, but it’s also feasible for those not on a teacher-training programme.

Support from the host university:
- The support provided by the host university is good; the lecturers are also very helpful and are usually available to talk to if you have any problems.
- The university offers the ‘S’intégrer grâce à un parrain français’ programme, in which every international student is assigned a French student as a mentor to help with all organisational matters. Highly recommended!
