The University of Münster (WWU)

The University of Münster has a special interest in religion and politics, as the Cluster of Excellence demonstrates. One of the current focuses of the Cluster is an interreligious and interdisciplinary research project studying normative sources of monotheistic religions with methods of the Digital Humanities, i. e. applying digital tools to help researchers edit and interpret the materials. One of Germany's three Centres of Islamic Theology is located in Münster, as well. The University of Münster is thus home to the theological and religious study of the world's monotheistic religions and Christian denominations, namely Catholic theology, Protestant theology, Orthodox theology, Jewish studies and Islamic theology. Several research centres devoted to the general non-denominational study of religion, e. g. the Centre for Religion and Modernity (CRM), augment the superb and distinct opportunities of the study and research of religion afforded to students and scholars alike.

Campus of Religions

Efforts are underway to unite the diverse fields of theological and religious study into a joint Campus of Religions. The construction work is scheduled to conclude in 2024, after which theological faculties and religious studies will have a common place to participate in projects of interdisciplinary cooperation, interreligious dialogue and living religious diversity. About 4,000 students, more than 430 scholars and researchers, and a central library with more than 500,000 titles will become part of the Campus of Religions, making it an exceptional centre representing religions in modern society unlike any other worldwide.
