Research Software Engineering (RSE)

Software is an integral part of research and thus has a significant influence on the quality, sustainability and reproducibility of its results. Research Software Engineering brings the paradigms and experience of traditional software development to science. The new profession of Research Software Engineer enriches research with professional skills in data processing, simulation, modeling, analysis and communication.

GitLab and JupyterHub are examples of infrastructures offered by the IT of Münster University that can contribute significantly to better software. Furthermore, the IT advises on fundamental approaches to software development. The regional chapter of de-RSE offers a forum for professional and personal exchange about software development in research and the role of software developers in research institutions.
