Aim: Why do I do what I do?
Sometimes we lose the goal ahead of us in the hectic pace of life. Never ending to-do list and challenges must be mastered each day. This workshop offers doctoral researchers a space in which they can reflect on their goals and future, supporting a mindful and balanced way of life.
In this workshop, the participating early career researchers reflect on (self-imposed) demands and the (sometimes clashing) need for balance. They work out which factors provide stability and satisfaction in their own lives. This way one’s own goals and visions for the future, regarding career options, balancing family and career and other personal endeavours, become clearer. Underlying values and drivers will be examined to sharpen goals and to support future decision-making, allowing individual paths and diversity in life plans.
During the doctoral qualification phase, researchers sharpen their view on academia and reassess their initial reasons for an academic career. This is why we have a look at the academic system in the second part of the workshop: how does it impact personal and career goals and how can we use the system to reach our goal, for example the next career step. This in mind, the goals can now be prioritised according to personal importance and urgency. Participants then define which steps are necessary for their goals and break them down into small steps to increase feasibility.
Knowing your own wishes, goals and motives helps you to achieve what you really want to accomplish!
