The Peer Review Process

Publications play a crucial role in the dissemination of knowledge and the advancement of research across various fields. They serve as a formal means for researchers to share their findings, contribute to ongoing discussions, and establish their credibility within the academic community.

The journey from initial submission to acceptance is often complex, involving rigorous peer review and revisions based on feedback from experts. Understanding this process is essential for aspiring authors, as it not only enhances their writing skills but also prepares them for the challenges they may face when navigating reviewer comments.

The upcoming workshop with Prof. Kokko will provide valuable insights into this journey, allowing participants to engage with the intricacies of manuscript evaluation and response strategies.

In this workshop, Prof. Kokko will show a bit of a behind the scenes tour of what happens in editorial offices of journals. You may read published papers all you like, but what was the journey towards that product like, between 1st submission and acceptance?

You will also get an assignment 2 weeks before the workshop, where we simulate the fate of your manuscript once it has received somewhat tough and somewhat contradictory reviewer comments. Don't worry, you do not need to write a manuscript - but you will need to write the response letter to the comments that it (the non-existing MS) received.

Prof. Hanna Kokko is the speaker of the Rensch Lecture this year. The event will take place on 10.07.2025 before the Rensch lecture from 09:00-10:30 in the seminar room of the IEB, Hüffer Str. 1.
