Staff and Locations

The project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is implemented at the Institute for Musicology at University Münster in cooperation with the Orient Institute Istanbul and perspectivia.net (both part of the Max Weber Foundation – German Institutes of Humanities Abroad, Bonn), as well as the Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies at WWU Münster. The project is overseen by an international academic advisory board.

Each location is responsible for specific tasks and provides a unique contribution to the project:

In Münster, the Institute for Musicology carries out (ethno)musicological research, as well as the textual edition of the manuscripts, in close co-operation with the Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

In Bonn, the Max Weber Foundation is responsible for the technical development and provision of databases, especially with regards to the digital publication of the music and text editions via perspectivia.net. This includes the digitization of accumulated data and research outcomes.

In Istanbul, the Orient-Institute is responsible for the co-ordination of the project, on-site source-based research, liaison with Turkish researchers and institutions, and technical supervision of the edition in collaboration with Bonn.
